This month is all about ink! We worked with Kuretake Zig to create a custom solid sumi ink stick that we're super excited about. It's a solid block of ink that when ground down with the included Bokuchi Suzuri stone and water, turns to ink. This allows you to achieve any depth of color from a light gray wash to a dark black. To add a pop of color while keeping with the Japanese theme, this box includes a red acrylic ink from Speedball. The Higgins India Ink Softliner brush pen in this month's box is great for all sorts of illustrative linework or for covering large areas. To outline your art this month, we included two pigment-based permanent pens from Faber-Castell - one medium-tipped fineliner and one brush tip. We also included a soft white pastel pen from Edding. This pen contains water-based pigmented ink that produces light, semi-transparent white effects and is perfect for highlighting your art. Finally, we've included a custom Sumi-e paper pad from Hahnemhule that's designed specifically for this type of ink, as well as a Princeton Bamboo brush (size 2).
